Opportunities for Volunteering
Volunteering
and Work Placement
SCILL
welcomes the involvement of volunteers because of the unique
qualities they bring.
Their input allows us to provide improved and more
extensive services for our service users.
SCILL recognises that volunteering is mutually beneficial for
everyone involved, increasing the diversity of the organization.
Volunteers work in varied roles, from helping out in one of the
Independent Living classes, assisting in the Information and
Advice Service, helping in the café, to keeping SCILL’s gardens
and grounds tidy.
All our volunteers are offered support, training and
supervision.
Our aim is to involve service users in the running of SCILL.
Participants of the Centre are encouraged to develop
skills and confidence, enabling some individuals to move on to
volunteering within SCILL or in the wider community.
Peer Support amongst participants already takes place informally
at SCILL. Our aim is
to develop and train those participants who would like to take
this support further and offer a more formal service.
This could be making phone calls on someone’s behalf or
accompanying someone who wants to go shopping or has an
appointment to attend.
We
will be working towards gaining the Investors in Volunteers
Charter Mark next year.
