What is SDI and what do we do?
- A free community care and disability information service for anyone living or working in the borough.- Information provided for all ages and all disabilities
- Local and national information is collected and updated
- We produce factsheets on popular topics
- We write a regular newsletter on local and national disability issues and events
- Application forms kept for Blue Badges and Travel Permits
- Funder Finder database searches for help with financing
- We sell RADAR disabled toilet keys
- CRB disclosure checking service for organisations
- We maintain a second hand disability equipment website
What sort of information do we keep?
- Aids and
equipment, e.g. where to obtain walking aids, special chairs,
bath aids, grab rails, dressing aids, kitchen equipment
- Community care, e.g. how to obtain
a social worker or have an assessment by an occupational
therapist
- Holidays, e.g. wheelchair
accessible accommodation in the UK, activity holidays, cruises
- Support groups for carers and
people with particular conditions
- Transport – what is available in

- Recreation and sport, e.g. social
clubs for people with learning disabilities, wheelchair sports
- Education and Employment, e.g.
employment agencies for those with mental health
problems
- Accommodation, e.g. housing with
support, care homes
- Discrimination, e.g. fair
