In November 2006 I became a participant of SCILL, and a few months later was approached to see if I was interested in volunteering.
I have been a volunteer for a number of years to various 'not-for-profit' companies in Canada, and now at SCILL. I have found that volunteering is very rewarding, and I have always thought that you should try to 'give back', a little of what you 'take out of society'.
I am really enjoying volunteering for SCILL's Information & Advice service. I have learned so much, as I had no idea that there was such a huge amount of organisations, offering such a variety of help for people with differing disabilities!
It has also given me a little insight into the running of SCILL. I have also become a member of the Board at SCILL as it prides itself in being a User Led Organisation.
