“Sutton Centre for Independent
Living and Learning”

About

SCILL was set up by the London Borough of Sutton in late 1994 after a period of consultation with local disabled people who were clear that they wanted a centre for Independent Living rather than a traditional day centre.  The steering group set up a charity which became fully independent of the Local Authority on 1996.  The centre originally provided day services only. Since then, SCILL has grown and currently has a variety of services aimed at helping people with disabilities lead full, independent lives.

Promoting Independence
SCILL’s Independent Living Service provides courses and activities for disabled individuals Staff work with participants to set and achieve personal goals so that they are encouraged and motivated to learn new skills and gain their independence.  Courses and activities include computers classes, a fully accessible gym, individual cooking sessions, creative expression, craft, pottery and art.  For more information, please contact SCILL on 020 8770 4058 or email administrate@scill.org.uk

More Choice and Control
Direct payments are available to most disabled people, over the age of 16 and parents (or those with parental responsibilities) of children with disabilities who receive or are eligible to receive Community Care Services.  With Direct Payments, the person receives an agreed amount of cash, which they can use to arrange the support they need.  It offers more independence; flexibility; choice; control and consistency over people’s care arrangements.   SCILL’s Support Service offers a comprehensive range of support including a payroll service and a financial administrative service (FAS) for those who find it difficult to open a bank account or who choose not to handle the finance side of Direct Payments.  For more information, please call 020 8770 4045 or email dpadmin@scill.org.uk

Finding Information
SCILL’s Disability Information is a free and confidential service to everyone living or working in the Borough and can help with anything to do with disability or community care. Information is provided for all ages (including children) and disabilities and is sourced through a database of local and national information.  For more information, please call 020 8770 4065 or email information @scill.org.uk
